About R&Q

R&Q Ingeniería was founded in 1977 by three visionary engineers (Jorge Homero Chávez Sánchez, Bernardo Quiroga Vásquez, and Juan Rutllant Fernández) with the purpose of contributing to Chile’s development through the delivery of high-quality engineering services.
At a time when engineering consultancy was virtually nonexistent in the country, R&Q positioned itself as a pioneer in the field.

We began to grow thanks to our involvement in public works projects and infrastructure processes in Chile. During that time, the first four service areas were established: Road Infrastructure Engineering Studies, Advisory Services for Fiscal Inspection of road construction contracts, Sanitary Works, and Hydraulic Works Projects. At the end of the decade, in 1988, José Luis Galassi joined the business.

We expanded our range of services, from road engineering to hydraulic and sanitary projects, as well as works in airports, reservoirs, and other areas.

During this decade, the Feasibility and Pre-Investment Project Engineering area was created with a major goal: to enter the Large-Scale Mining sector. Mining in Chile was a key pillar of the economy, positioning the country as a global leader in copper production, with a growing diversification into other minerals.

This is how R&Q secured its first awarded contract with Minera Los Pelambres. The infrastructure area was also thriving, winning two major contracts: the Engineering Study for Concession Section 5 Temuco – Río Bueno in August 1995, and the Fiscal Inspection Advisory for the Santiago – Los Vilos route.

By the late 1990s, R&Q dreamed of expanding—and succeeded. The first offices in Peru were opened following the award of a major contract.

We began participating in landmark projects at the national level and became key players in engineering services for the mining industry.

This marked the beginning of our internationalization phase, with the opening of offices in Peru and Colombia, as well as involvement in projects in Paraguay, the United States, Mexico, among others.

R&Q Ingeniería continues to consolidate its position as one of the most prominent project management consulting firms in Latin America, thanks to its experience, technical capabilities, and commitment to excellence.

In line with its strategic growth vision, the company has begun its expansion into new markets, such as the energy sector, thereby broadening its service portfolio and strengthening its presence in key industries for the sustainable development of the region.

This expansion reflects a forward-looking perspective, in which R&Q seeks not only to diversify its areas of expertise, but also to actively contribute to the challenges facing Latin America in terms of infrastructure, energy transition, and territorial development.

In 2023, R&Q Ingeniería drove a strategic transformation of its governance structure with the goal of strengthening decision-making, incorporating new perspectives, and ensuring long-term sustainable development.

As part of this process, a new Board of Directors was established, composed of the company’s three founding partners along with three external directors with recognized careers in the business and engineering sectors. This integration of internal and external viewpoints enriches strategic discussions, promotes transparency, and reinforces the principles of good corporate governance.

A significant milestone in this new phase is that the Chair of the Board is led by a woman, reflecting R&Q’s commitment to gender equity and diversity in leadership positions.
